These U shaped cable needles from Clover are brilliant for knitting cables becase the U shape prevents needle from sliding out of the stitches it is holding.

The smallest green one is for 2.75-3.5mm, the medium white for 3.5mm-4.5mm and the larger pink one is for 4.5-6mm needles.
