Bonington - La Ferte Bookmark BL1120/71

Bonington's early death at 26 belies his later standing as one of the most important artists of his day.  He is regarded as vital in understanding the French and British art of the Romantic Period.  English born, he moved to France at 14 and spent his last years between the 2 countries, his works include history and subject paintings and landscapes.  His body of work includes highly detailed finished work as well as sketches.  La Ferte is an estury in Northern France and this bookmark features a detail from this work.
